When a snowball is starting to roll down a hill full of snow, is it easier to stop it at the top? Or as it gets bigger towards the bottom?  Of course, it’s easier to stop at the top. And that is exactly where Satan likes to come into play.

He’d like to stop us from growing closer to God before we become full of His word, grow in our faith, and become unphased by sin. This is why it’s so important to read the New Testament.

Why read the New Testament first with this Bible reading plan PDF?

If you’re going to start reading your bible or if you want to dive back in, the New Testament is the best place to start. If you look at the Bible as a whole, the testaments -new and old- are covenants between God and us.

There is the “old covenant” which is the Old Testament. In the Old Testament, most of what is written does not apply to us, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth reading.

The Old Testament is amazing for understanding who God is. His character and how He loves us. Among a million other things.

However, if you’re just starting out or if you want to know what applies to us as Christians, you need to start in the “new covenant”- the New Testament.  And it is totally possible to read the New Testament in a month.

That’s why I created this plan to read the new testament in 30 days, to make it easily accessible for everyone.

Once Jesus came to Earth, lived a sinless life, was crucified and raised from the dead, we began a new covenant with God. A covenant wrapped in love and freedom in Christ. The New Testament is the best order to read the Bible for new believers.

Why does this 30 day New Testament Reading Plan start in John?

The New Testament starts in Matthew with the four gospels.  However, I’ve started this bible reading plan in John.

Why? Because if you’re new to reading the Bible, then reading the gospel four times can be a little repetitive.

The gospels are written by four disciples. Each of them wrote down what they saw and experienced during the life of Jesus on Earth.

Each gospel is different and unique in its own way, however, they all carry the same message. Christ came to Earth, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and was crucified and raised to life on the third day.

What Christ did and said while He was here is extremely important. It’s also important to read the other gospels, however, they’re left out of this bible reading plan.

Tips to use this New Testament 30 Day Reading Plan

If you’re new to reading your Bible I’d love to give you some tips for reading! This is the perfect bible reading plan for beginners pdf!

1. It is ok to not understand everything you’re reading.

When you receive salvation, the Holy Spirit comes and lives inside of you.  Meaning, you have God living in you. I know, a strange concept yet it’s a reminder that He is always with you.

The Holy Spirit interprets the Bible for you. I don’t know if you ever read the Bible before knowing Christ, but it doesn’t make much sense without Him.

As the Holy Spirit interprets the Bible for you, some things you read will pop out and make so much sense to you, while others won’t.

The Bible isn’t meant to just be read once, and as you read it more, different things will make sense at different times. Because God knows what you need- when you need it. It’s pretty incredible.

Especially when you read the new testament in 30 days, you’re not taking the time to study each chapter and dive in. And that’s totally fine.

Side note- as you read the Bible, you’re feeding your Spirit, and even if you think you aren’t retaining what you’re reading. The Holy Spirit is able to remind you of scripture that you have read when you need it.

But He can’t remind you of scripture if you don’t read it! So make sure to read!

2. If you don’t have a Bible, or want a new one grab a study Bible

A study Bible breaks down verses and tells you what they mean. I remember when I first starting reading the New Testament, I kept reading that Jesus hung on a tree.

And I kept thinking- wait I thought he was crucified- not hung with a rope. I didn’t understand that it meant he was hung on a cross with nails. ( I know, I know silly me)

There are a lot of things in the Bible that just won’t make sense at first and you’ll have a lot of questions. This is why study Bibles are perfect for beginners or even seasoned Christians.

I still use my study Bible, it’s what I call my “trusty dusty”. It may have pages ripped and wrinkled but I love it.

Here are some study Bibles that you can grab on Amazon:

This is the Bible I personally use- my “trusty dusty”:

3. Don’t be afraid to write and highlight in your Bible while you read the New Testament in 30 days

It’s a question so many people ask. Trust me, you’re not offending God by writing in your Bible.

Mine is marked, highlighted…I’ve even spilled food and coffee in it. But when I’m trying to look for a verse, I remember what color it’s highlighted in and it makes it easier for me to find.

If you’d like to have a system to highlight in your bible I have an easy to use Bible Study Color Code you can grab here:

Here are some highlighters and pens I’d recommend for using with a Bible. The Bible has thin pages so you want to make sure that what you use doesn’t bleed through the papers.

4. It’s totally normal to have more questions when using this bible reading plan pdf.

The Bible is literally full of the works of God. And as the Bible says “His ways are higher than our ways” (Isaiah 55:8-9) so some of it may be hard to understand.

If you’re going to read the New Testament in 30 days you’re going to have questions.

If you’d like to dive deeper or have a person to ask questions, reach out to your church and ask for someone to disciple you.  Discipleship is important in any Christian’s walk. To get someone that is a little further in their walk than you to come alongside you and help you on your journey.

You can also grab Hank Hanegraaff’s resource for commonly asked questions:

I loved this book when I was first reading my Bible!

He also has a couple of podcasts you can listen to! Just look up Hank Hanegraaff on your favorite podcast app!

If you’d like to dive deeper into the Bible then you can also grab a Bible commentary. My favorite is the Be Series by Warren Wiersbe. He’s my favorite.

Here’s an example of one of the books, there is one for each book of the Bible:

How to use this New Testament Reading Schedule

This Read the New Testament in 30 days PDF is broken down by day with checkboxes so you can check off each day.

Each day is five to six chapters. Depending on which book of the Bible you’re reading from it should average about 30 minutes a day for the average reader.  As you get to the middle and near the end, the chapters are shorter and take less time to read.

I like to read my Bible in a quiet place if possible so that I can fully concentrate on what I’m reading, I suggest you do the same.  It makes it easier to focus.

I always recommend praying before reading the Bible. Pray for God to reveal Himself to you, for you to focus and remember His word, and for help to apply His word. If you don’t know how to pray here’s a step by step guide to learn how to pray.

I completed this New Testament reading plan 30 days after starting it and so I think it’s totally doable!
